NMW collects contemporary art!

10-12-2020
Thanks to the program "The National Collection of Contemporary Art of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage", we have enriched our collection of 20th and 21st century art and Polish design.

The task was to purchase 34 works for the Collection of Modern Art of the National Museum in Warsaw (Paintings after 1914, Cabinet of Contemporary Figures and Drawings, Collection of Modern Design) and 1 sculpture for the Collection of Contemporary Sculpture at the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture in Królikarnia (a division of the National Museum in Warsaw).

New purchases contain 7 paintings by Zbigniew Dłubak, 2 works on paper by Marek Sobczyk, a set of 18 works by Janusz Przybylski, 1 sewn-on painting by Kajetan Sosnowski, a sculpture by the Kijewski / Kocur duo, and 6 items for the Modern Design Collection. Soon you will be able to discover the newly purchased works at the Digital NMW!

Over time, the National Museum in Warsaw will focus on supplementing the Collection of Paintings after 1914 and the Cabinet of Contemporary Figures and Drawings with works of radical groups during the martial law period, works of outstanding artists of the 1960s and 1970s, including the representation of conceptual art, and also, due to the dominant painting feature of the National Museum in Warsaw, the work of Polish painters of the younger and middle generation. In the coming years, we would like to focus on acquiring works constitutive of the completeness and quality of the narrative of the history of contemporary art presented at the National Museum in Warsaw.
