At Dawn / W Brzask series returns with another otherworldly programme

The moment of night turning into day has such incredible potential. Rays of the rising sun bring light to the world, making it seem simultaneously irrational and embarrassingly real. Reason takes a nap. Our eyes hurt, blinded by the light, and yet we can see so clearly. We listen with our entire bodies, not just our ears.

At Dawn is a series of musical events, which makes use of the gracious and demanding aura of sunrise and temporarily turns it into a musical experiment. This modest tradition began in 2013 in the park by the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture at the Królikarnia Palace, a division of the National Museum in Warsaw. The programme of At Dawn is open to just about any genre of music, though it does favour the modest, sublime and eccentric.

In 2022, At Dawn began journeying outside of Warsaw. First, the New Horizons Film Festival invited us to a beautiful park in Wrocław, and then we set out to celebrate sunrise at the park surrounding the Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki, another division of the National Museum in Warsaw.

At Dawn has enjoyed thirty-one editions so far, gathering nearly 1500 people each year, and is honoured to cooperate with such great allies as the Ephemera Festival and the British Council. The public’s appreciation of the project was followed by a Wierzba Award in the “Open Projects” category, awarded by the Association of Polish Museologists.

For its current season, the organizer of W Brzask – the National Museum in Warsaw – has decided to introduce a symbolic fee for participation in the event, to facilitate the continuation of the series.
