Open Sketchbook
Draw surrounded by masterpieces!
Do you wish you could just spend time in a museum unbothered, in no rush – just drawing, taking in paintings and talking about art? You can! Sketch with us in the permanent galleries of the National Museum in Warsaw, surrounded by masterpieces which have continued to inspire artists for centuries.
During each meeting we will focus on a different theme and set of artworks. Together, we will take a look at composition, form, lighting, and the emotions hidden in the paintings and sculptures. You don't need to be able to draw – all you need is some curiosity and creativity! Above all, this is an opportunity to discover artworks at a leisurely pace, learn more about their history, focussing not only on the final product but also on the creative process – mindfully exploring and enjoying each piece and the focus and pleasure that went into their creation.
Practical Information:
● The meetings are open to everyone – regardless of age or experience.
● We provide all the materials needed, but if you’d like, you can bring your own sketchbook, notebook, crayons or pencils.
● You can keep all the pieces you create during the workshops – come to several meetings and create an extraordinary portfolio inspired by works from the NMW collection!
● During the workshops we will try out different drawing techniques – no worries! They won’t be messy, so a change of clothes won’t be necessary.
● You can join us at any time, however, we do encourage you to come at the beginning to in time to hear the instructor’s introduction.
● The sketching sessions are led by experienced NMW Educators – you will receive helpful tips and individual suggestions from them.
● Meetings take place in the permanent galleries. Be sure to check the programme to see which gallery we will be in on your chosen date and look for the easel with the sign: ‘HERE WE SKETCH’.
