The Library of the National Museum in Warsaw is a research library. It collects books and periodicals on history and theory of art, museology, protection and conservation of monuments, archaeology and numismatics, history, history of culture as well as memoirs, guides and monographs on towns.
The collection of the library is divided into three main parts: the Section of New Books (i.e. published after 1800), the Section of Periodicals and Calendars and the Special Collections, comprising the Collection of Early Printed Books and the Cartographic Collection.
The library serves mainly as the scientific employees of the Museum’s workshop resource, but the majority of its collection is also available to anyone interested.
The library collections, although intended mainly for the research staff of the Museum, are also available to the general public (in the reading room only).
The reading room is located on the second floor of the Main Building of the National Museum in Warsaw (entrance through the first gate from Charles de Gaulle Roundabout). The reading room is open from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Order slips for books and periodicals from the store rooms can be placed till 3 p.m. Photocopies are made from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
